Kalozi estimates the calories and macronutrients in your meals from a photo. This page explains exactly what that involves: what leaves your phone, who processes it, and how to delete all of it.

Kalozi is operated by Adil Khan ("we", "us"), an independent individual developer rather than a company. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights described below, email support@kalozi.com — that address is the data controller's contact point and is monitored.

The short version

What we collect

Data Why Where it goes
Meal photos To identify the food and estimate portions Resized on your phone, then sent to our server and to our AI provider
Meal descriptions you type To analyse a meal without a photo, or to correct one Same as above
Your answers to the setup questions: goal, sex, age, height, weight, target weight, activity level, diet preference To calculate a safe daily calorie and macro target Stored on your device and in your account
Your meal log and weight log To show your history, streak, and progress Stored on your device first, then synced to your account
Email address and name Only if you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, so your data survives a lost phone Stored in your account
Usage events: which screens you open, whether a scan succeeded, whether you logged a meal To find out where the app confuses people Our analytics provider
Crash reports: error messages, device model, OS version To fix crashes Our crash reporting provider
Subscription status To unlock paid features and honour your trial Our subscription provider and the app store

What we deliberately do not collect

We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, your health app data, your advertising identifier, or your browsing activity. Our analytics events describe behaviour, never content: no event we send contains a photo, a meal description, an email address, or a weight. Our crash reports are filtered to strip anything that looks like an email address or image data before they are sent.

How your meal photos are processed

This is the part most people want to understand, so in order:

  1. You take a photo. It is resized and compressed on your phone.
  2. It is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which adds no personal information to it.
  3. Our server sends the image to our AI provider, which returns the food items and nutrition estimates. Anthropic processes it on our behalf as a service provider and, under our agreement with them, does not use it to train their models.
  4. The estimate comes back to your phone. If you save the meal, the photo is stored in your account so it appears on your other devices and survives a lost phone.

Nobody browses your photos — not even us. Access to the storage bucket is restricted to your own account by database row-level security.

Who we share data with

We use the following processors. Each one receives only what it needs to do its job.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

In the app

Open Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your login, your meals, your photos, your weights, your goals, and your referral records. It cannot be undone.

Deleting individual meals is also immediate — swipe a meal on the Today screen.

If you would rather we did it, email support@kalozi.com and we will action it within 30 days.

Full instructions, including what is deleted and what we have to keep.

Note that deleting your Kalozi account does not cancel your subscription — that is managed by Apple or Google. See Support for how to cancel.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email support@kalozi.com. We will not charge you or degrade your service for asking.

If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are: contract (analysing a meal you asked us to analyse, providing your log), legitimate interests (keeping the app working, preventing abuse, fixing crashes), and consent (optional analytics where required). You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, and you can reach us directly at support@kalozi.com.

Children

Kalozi is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Calorie tracking is not appropriate for children. If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Every database table is protected by row-level security scoped to your own account, so one user's request cannot read another user's rows. No AI provider key or server credential is stored in the app itself. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you of a breach affecting your data as required by law.

Not medical advice

Kalozi's calorie and macro figures are estimates produced by an AI model from a photograph. They will sometimes be wrong. Kalozi is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant, are managing a medical condition, or have a history of disordered eating.

Changes

If we change this policy materially we will update the date above and notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
